Specimen:

Basal part of the lung

Gross Pathology:

1. Basal part of the right lung shows a large abscess cavity 10 cm in diameter having a thick fibrous grayish wall and smooth inner lining.

2. Surrounding lung tissue is collapsed.

3. The covering pleura shows greyish white fibrous thickening and fibrous adhesions.

Diagnosis:

1. Chronic lung abscess.

2. Pleural fibrosis and adhesions.
