Description Syphilitic Aotitis with Pouching and Atherosclerosis

Specimen:

Ascending aorta and adjacent part of the left ventricle.

 

Gross Pathology:

1.  The wall of the ascending aorta is stretched forming a pouch.

2.  The intima of the aorta shows syphilitic grayish fibrous patches as well as irregular raised yellow atherosclerotic patches; some are ulcerated and calcified.

 

Diagnosis:

1.  Syphilitic aortitis with pouching

2.  Atherosclerosis of the aorta.
